Lira

Our group- Juliette, Kalyn and Mary -traveled with Angela and our colleague Anne from Entebbe to Lira where we spent our first 2 weeks.

It was the first time UBC has partnered with Lira Regional Referral Hospital, so in addition to working on the labour suite, we spent time building relationships, touring hospitals, attending workshops and teaching. We were also fortunate enough to spend a day observing in the HIV clinics, which are reducing maternal to fetal transmission with great success!

We met, worked with, and befriended some of the most dedicated care providers I've known.

Resources can be scarce, and at times system level problems work against the best efforts of the staff. We left Lira with a heightened passion for comprehensive documentation and systematic approach.

We will miss our new friends in Lira as we head off for our next 4 weeks in Mbale!

Apwoyo (thank you) to the mothers and staff at LRRH who welcomed us so warmly!
